"I don't agree with the conclusion that parents have fear
of quarrels, and that they would avoid a real conflict. They discuss or
negotiate, in that sense they try to avoid conflict. This is the Polder
model in the family, but that is not wrong."
"What stroke me in the survey was the disappearing of
what we may call the educational centerfield: youth work, community work,
free-lance work. This has mostly disappeared, and nothing came in its place.
Youngsters, especially those in the poor quarters, hang around and roam
aimless in the streets. We may complain about their individualism, but we have
caused this ourselves. have a look in the vicinities in which are community
facilities. These are often used for sports, computer use, meeting each other
and for home work coaching."
"Additionally, there are the schools, which have become
greater and more anonymous. [...]"
"Parents do what they can; also this survey reports that.
Nevertheless, some parents might chose other priorities. It is appalling that
some fathers have little time for their children. This is connected with the
fact that everybody in this society is in a hurry to achieve and to work, just
as the mothers are. But in daycare, one may observe that children are the last
priority. That worries me. However, other parents organize their time quite
well."
"I do not agree that a short quality time will be enough. parents must
structurally create time for their children."
